Modelling Techniques Part 2

Using the "Fillet" tool to curve the vertexes of a rectangular spline.

Extruding the spline to create an american style looking (or at least the outline of it) mailbox.

Copying the spline, and deleting the effects made to the spline at the start by hitting the delete key, erases the "Fillet" you made to it at the start, with now the interior spline left the extrusion modifier is all that is left, filling the gap and giving it mass.

Lathe Exercise:

By carefully planning out a 2d line, you could create some quick but complex shapes. Using the "Lathe" modifier to spin the line a full 360 degrees, creating mass as it turns.

By changing the view port background to a front view of certain chess pieces, drawing over them and using the lathe modifier gave very effective results. Also to be more precise I moved the vertices into a more precise location for extra detail.

The trickiest part of this exercise for me is accurately getting the curves correct on the 2D lines as I draw them. I have to click my vertices and drag as the exact point I need or it all becomes out of shape. However like I said before being able to move the vertices allows for more precision so I can correct this.

Using the Fillet tool made creating the curves and detail into the shape a lot easier, instead of having to click around and drag each particular curve and bend, I could create the curve with the Fillet modifier, showing a lot more detail.
